Photo series #7 – Magic temples of Angkor, Cambodia

January 15, 2016

For my first stop in Cambodia, I flew to Siem Reap, a northern city, very famous for its Angkor site. Angkor is an huge park hosting the remains of the Khmer Empire from the 9th to the 15th century. This tour is a perfect opportunity to discover the Khmer architecture, especially if you like temples!

Even if Angkor Wat, known for being featured in Apocalypse Now, is the most famous temple, I wasn’t really impressed. One of its particularities is its low relief, that remained almost intact, and illustrating historical scenes.

On the long road of Angkor temples, I really enjoyed Ta Prohm and Prah Khan. Very charming places where nature got back on top. So you can see trees embedded within the temples walls. And for Tom Raider’s Fans, you will certainly recognize a place where Angelina Jolie was in the movie.

Regarding Banteay Srei, its particularity is its bright orange red bricks and beautiful gates and walls ornaments.
But my favorite is Bayon, a kind of faces labyrinth : a temple formed by tower with 4 faces each. In fact you see faces and profil everywhere! A classic picture to take there is you face to face with one of these faces.
