After two days in Georges Town, Penang, I wanted a little more freshness and greenery.
So I went to the south, in Cameron Highlands five hours away from Penang by bus.
The road is very curvy in the last hour and a half, but the hills of Cameron Highlands with a temperature of only 23 °C compared to 32 °C in the rest of Malaysia, deserve all the trouble.
For the first time, I wanted to try couch surfing (cs). After I arrived in Tanah rata, one of the main town in Cameron Highlands, I waited for Nancey, my cs host.
After having enjoying some great local food in a night market (langsat similar to litchi, nasi goreng very good, sea coconut seems like Jelly and a martabak manis sweet with nuts and corn), Nancey took me to her home, a farm surrounded by hills and plantations in Habu, a little village near Tanah rata.
The place is just beautiful and relaxing, and my host Nancey is awesome. She showed me all the surroundings with all the beautiful views of the valley.
Let’s visit the hills!
I did some hitchhiking to move around the valley. It is very widespread and effective here. Malaysians are very welcoming and curious to know about you, so you easily meet new people to talk with.
Cameron Highlands is known first for its many and beautiful tea plantations, but you will also find many strawberry farms, and timbered houses.
I did not take the time to do more things but you can also visit butterfly farm, or hiking in the valley.
In conclusion, Cameron Highlands are currently my favorite place. There are beautiful views but also it is very calm and green. So it was a relaxing moment. And furthermore, my first experience with couch surfing was awesome. So I will definitely do it again.
Now it is time for me to leave this quiet place and to join another very different place, Kuala Lumpur.
